Chairman Kazuhisa Higashida

The essence of Kyoto's food culture,
Passing on the craftsmanship that has supported it and the story of this ancient capital through food to the future

The predecessor of this association, the Kyoto Prefecture Food Industry Council, was established in April 1974 under the guidance of Kyoto Prefecture and the Kyoto Prefectural Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises Associations.

Over the 32 years since then, its business has grown and expanded, and it was incorporated in April 2006. Today, with 25 member organizations and over 1,200 member companies, it has grown and developed into a food industry organization that truly represents Kyoto.

This is entirely due to the support of related institutions, organizations, consumers, and others, for which we would like to express our sincere gratitude.

In the 50 years since the founding of our association, Japan's economy has experienced many ups and downs, going through the post-war reconstruction period and the period of high economic growth, and has also faced numerous domestic and international challenges, including the Lehman Shock, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), unprecedented natural disasters, COVID-19, energy issues, and the consumption tax rate hike. However, we have worked hard to ensure the survival and development of our companies with the vitality that is unique to small and medium-sized enterprises.

In recent years, the food industry has seen a rise in bankruptcies, closures, and closures due to tight profits caused by rising raw material, labor, transportation, and material costs, as well as a significant decline in consumption due to declining incomes and populations. This, combined with the weakening of ties with local communities and the globalization of food, has led to an increase in bankruptcies, closures, and closures of businesses.

Many of these businesses are in industries that have long been carrying on traditional Japanese flavors, and protecting and passing on traditional regional food cultures has become a social issue.

In this situation, based on the foundation of "safe and secure food in Kyoto," our association, as an organization that plays a part in promoting Kyoto's food culture, which has grown alongside its history and culture, maintains the firm belief that Kyoto's traditional food culture, which has been passed down through the wisdom and ingenuity of our predecessors, will never be lost. We will bring together the strengths of the food industry organizations gathered here, the majority of which are small and medium-sized enterprises, and work with all our might to establish a sound management foundation for the future, promote consumer health, and contribute to a safe and secure diet.
